He is the author of a sermon series book, Where Gratitude Abounds.
Pastor Freeman attended Wittenberg University in Springfield, Ohio, and Divinity School at Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut. Additional studies include Clinical pastoral Education at NIMH's St. Elizabeths Hospital in Washington, D.C.
In June 2005, Pastor Freeman celebrated his 30th Ordination anniversary. Pastor Joseph M. Freeman was ordained on Friday the thirteenth of June, 1975, at the Ohio Synod Convention, which took place at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Dayton, Ohio. Professor Paul Holmer, Professor of Theology at Yale (also a C.S. Lewis & Kierkegaard scholar), who was a mentoring presence in Pastor Joe's life, placed the ordination stole upon him. Since it has been his lifelong dream to visit Ireland, his ancestral home, the congregation honored him with a trip to Ireland.
