Typically, our culture rushes frantically toward Christmas, hustling and bustling with activities and hurried preparations….no time for rest, no time for quiet and certainly no space for the Holy. While the rest of the world hurls itself mindlessly toward “the holidays,” Christians are called to contemplate the coming of Emmanuel into the world. Our Midweek Advent focus O Come, O Come Emmanuel will allow time for us to slow down, ponder, listen, and prepare our hearts.
In order to pay attention to the many signs and wonders that preceded Christ’s coming, we must slow our pace to a thoughtful walk. The hymn writer refers to Jesus as “Emmanuel” and “God with us”. Each verse of this hymn salutes the Messiah by referring to one of the many titles given to Him in scripture. On Wednesday nights in Advent, we will offer 7 interactive prayer stations (including Holy Communion). Each station focuses on one verse of O Come, O Come Emmanuel with a prayer, Bible verses, reflection questions and an interactive experience. So we don't lose sight of Him, or fail to watch for Him, in the busy-ness of the season.
Prayer stations provide a focused space for prayer and reflection, a quiet place for God to speak to you.
- The amount of time spent at each station is up to you, instrumental music is played softly.
- Prayer stations will open at 6:30 pm beginning with a brief prayer led by Pastor Libby.
- You can visit the Prayer stations any time between 6:30 and 8 pm as your schedule allows.
- Holy Communion is one of the Prayer stations and is offered every week.
- You can visit (or revisit) as many or as few of the stations as you wish each week.
- A guidebook with questions, suggested reflections and activities will be available November 20.
- Prayer stations are designed for all ages and families are welcome to experience them together.
